EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The Assistant Superintendent, Public Works, serves as principle assistant to the Division Head of a major division by overseeing accomplishment of assigned tasks and functions.1. Through management and leadership oversight, the Assistant Superintendent ensures that the Division Head's objectives are carried out; has authority for all essential human resource functions such as hiring, training, performance management, and other personnel actions.2. Helps plan work activities, provides and develops training, and oversees the safety programs for the subordinates of all direct reports.3. Checks on work in progress and directs corrective actions.4. Assists in development of budget estimates and helps control expenditures. Researches pricing for departmental necessities not obtained through City contract by obtaining bids and researches purchasing specifications.5. Responsible for personnel actions such as scheduling workers, approving leave, conducting job Interviews, hiring new employees, recommending pay raises, promotions and other personnel actions. 6. Completes performance evaluations for immediate direct reports and provides one-over review and approval of all performance evaluations for the subordinates of direct reports. May render decisions on personnel actions appealed by subordinates of direct reports.7. Implements and trains direct reports and their subordinates on city policies and procedures and creates, implements and trains subordinates on department specific policies and procedures. 8. Receives, investigates and responds to inquiries and complaints from citizens and other members of the public.9. Compiles, reviews and submits all reports as needed.10. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Physical Requirements: 1. Regularly required to use hands to finger, hands or feet.2. Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, perform work in manholes and pits. 3. Frequently required to bend, squat, stoop or perform work in tight places or a confined space. 4. Must consistently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, far vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must have the physical ability to operate all required equipment and perform work in confined spaces.Work Environment: 1. Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. 2. Must be able to work long consecutive hours as required by the nature of the emergency.3.
