The City of Sidney is accepting applications for candidates to be placed on a Lateral Hire Eligibility List for full-time Firefighter/Paramedics. The job description is available on line on the right hand side in the file called Lateral -Entry Firefighter Application Packet 2025.
Lateral entry firefighter-paramedic applicants who have a minimum of two (2) consecutive years of experience as a full-time firefighter paramedic with no break in service for more than one year, at the time of application may apply for a lateral appointment without taking the civil service examination. Such candidates laid off within one year from the date of application or placed in a part-time or reserve position after having worked in a full-time position for two consecutive years within one year from the date of application may apply for a lateral appointment, provided the candidate holds a Paramedic certification and Firefighter level II through the State of Ohio.
Candidates must not have separated from a current or prior public safety position because of disciplinary issue, or to avoid a disciplinary action.
All Sidney Fire Department probationary periods shall apply. New Hires serve a one-year probationary period from the date they begin employment with the Sidney Fire Department. All candidates must complete an application that is available in the Department of Human Resources located at 201 W. Poplar St., Sidney, Ohio 45365. Office hours are Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Qualifications
- Must be a high school graduate or hold a GED certificate.
- Must possess a Paramedic certification and Firefighter Level II through State of Ohio as a condition of appointment with the Fire Department.
- Minimum of 20 years of age and not yet reached their forty-first (41) birthday at the time of appointment.
- Possession of a valid Ohio Driver’s License at the time of appointment and be eligible for coverage under the City’s vehicle insurance provider.
- Must be eligible to legally work in the United States
- Background must be free of prior felony convictions or other immediate disqualifiers.
- Regular and punctual attendance is regarded as an essential requirement of this classification.
- Adherence to all applicable Federal and State safety laws, rules and regulations and City safety policies/procedures.
