Position Summary:
The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing routine and preventative maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning of buildings, facilities, various equipment, and infrastructure throughout the City of Sidney. This role involves inspecting, repairing, and maintaining systems such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, construction, heavy equipment operating, and mechanical skills. Troubleshooting problem, performing safety checks, physical labor and attention to detail are all a must. These maintenance skills are important and needed, the electrical skills are particularly valued.
Job Dimensions:
The Parks and Recreation Group is comprised of eight regular full time employees responsible for maintaining in excess of 600 acres of City owned parks and grounds. This includes 18 City parks, 60 beauty areas, multiple detention basins, right of ways along major state routes and Interstate, as well as many City owned property’s and facilities.
The Maintenance Worker is expected to work on a wide range of equipment, grounds, and facilities. This position is expected to work on projects independently or with a group. The Maintenance Worker will be expected to work effectively with minimal direct supervision.

Qualifications
•High school/Trade school graduate or GED equivalent • Able to read and write • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in the construction or facilities maintenance field or experience in one or more trades at the journeyman level (Construction/Electrical/Plumbing/HVAC/Welding/Engine) • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in operating heavy equipment • Mechanical aptitude • Basic Computer skills to create documents/spreadsheets • Ability to communicate with coworkers and citizens (written, orally, electronically) • Valid class (B) CDL, with tanker and airbrake endorsement or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
Salary : $24 - $33
