Definition & Essential Functions
Under general supervision, supervises public pool staff and oversees aquatics facility and activities/programs. FLSA status: Non-Exempt.

Tasks
Prioritizes tasks, prepares schedules, supervises, trains and coaches aquatic staff. Determines staffing needs and makes recommendations to supervisor as needed. Schedules usage of aquatic facilities. Coordinates day-to-day operation of the City's aquatic center. Plans, organizes and conducts pool facility events and staff in-Service training. Coordinate and schedule daily pool maintenance including monitoring pool chemical levels, vacuuming, and minor equipment maintenance and repair. Ensures sufficient inventory of supplies and equipment.
Participates in the development and administration of aquatics budget. Assists with developing cost estimates and justifications for budget recommendations, and the monitor and control of applicable program revenues and expenditures. Research and evaluate equipment needs for facility and make recommendations to supervisor. Responsible for staff timesheet verification and submission. Ensures lifeguard and swim instruction certifications of staff are up to date at all times.
Collaborates with community groups, including other cities, schools, non-profits, youth organizations, churches, and others, to promote aquatic and community service programs. Represents City at various community and professional committees related to area of responsibility. Responds to program-related inquiries and concerns from staff, citizens, participants, contractors, etc.; resolves complaints and/or problems associated with aquatic programs and facilities. Prepares written reports and correspondence.
Communicates and enforces policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of people using the aquatic facilities. Communicates and enforces policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of aquatic staff. As needed performs rescue operations and administers the corrective course(s) of action in alignment with certifications. Conducts inspections to ensure compliance with program and safety policies and procedures. Documents accidents and other incidents according to procedures. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Knowledges, Skills & Other Characteristics
Knowledge of:
City policies and procedures.
Pool rules/regulations and applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Principles, practices, instructing, developing, surveying, and quantifying used in swimming instructions and lifesaving methods and procedures, including first aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and standard resuscitation measures.
Swimming pool maintenance, operations and safety.
The principles of record keeping and records management with ability to prepare clear, concise and complete documents, reports and correspondence.
Skill in:
Staff supervision and training.
Acting quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
Performing rescue operations and administering First aid and CPR (AED).
Customer Service
Lifting 50 pounds or more.
Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint).
Ability to:

Qualifications
REQUIRED:
Associate's degree and three (3) years’ experience in aquatic or recreation programming OR HS Diploma or GED and five (5) years’ experience in aquatics or recreation programming. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid AZ driver’s license.
**Degree must be from an institution accredited as recognized by the U.S Department of Education as indicated in the Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.
Required Certifications:
American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard/CPR/FPR
ARC Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
Must Obtain:
ARC Lifeguard – Water Park Module within 3 months of hire.
ARC Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT) within 18 months of hire.
ARC Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) within 6 months of hire.
Desired Certifications:
ARC Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT)
ARC Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT)
Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) and/or Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
