EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or twelve to eighteen months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, other employees, and the public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must acquire an Arkansas Solid Waste Facility Operator License

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The Administrative Assistant/Scale House Attendant performs a variety of routine to complex clerical, secretarial and customer service duties. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the operation of the solid waste transfer station and recycle center.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Acts as primary department receptionist. Answers incoming calls and provides information and/or routs calls to appropriate officials. Explains standard department procedures to customers. Places outgoing calls.
- Assist and operates in procurement of materials and supplies.
- Act as dispatcher for the Solid Waste, Recycle and Street Department regarding customer inquiries or complaints.
- Acts as cashier for the department. Collects deposits for dumpsters, takes payment from customers disposing of trash, electronics, and household hazardous waste. Keeps record of money collected and prepares daily tickets/receipts for Utility Department.
- Acts as Scale House Attendant for the departments. Weighs vehicles in and out and keeps record of tonnage collected.
- Acts as billing clerk for the department. Bills account customers monthly using Caselle software.
- Type and edit a variety of correspondence, reports, memorandums, spreadsheets, graphs, and other materials requiring judgment and accuracy as to content and completeness.
- Coordinate office operation of the department. Develop office forms and procedures.
- Codes receipts and keeps spreadsheet of expenditures.
- Coordinate travel plans, including all hotel registration reservations for staff.
- Schedule appointments, calendar, and perform other administrative and diverse clerical duties.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly material financial reports and maintain program statistics.
- Writes staff reports to superintendents, writes letters and reports on recycling activities.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
