What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Cashier position at CITY OF SILOAM SPRINGS?
SUMMARY
The incumbent is responsible for promoting a friendly and positive attitude to customers of City Hall. The incumbent greets customers, takes payments and posts to appropriate accounts and processes applications. Position provides back up to the utility billing clerk, including processing billing cycles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (additional duties may be assigned as needed):
- Greet customers, answer questions and direct them to appropriate area.
- Receive payment and post to proper account.
- Process utility applications obtaining all necessary information and identification.
- Write receipts when necessary.
- Balance payments at the end of each day.
- Process permits and make copies.
- Answer the telephone and help customers with questions, in a pleasing manner.
- File forms as directed.
- Process meter edit paper work.
- Process all functions of service orders in utility billing software (Caselle).
- Respond to emails and complete needed action.
- Maintain trash bin record.
- Take daily deposit to bank and check the mail at the post office.
- Process meter reading and routes into and out of Itron into Caselle.
- Scan all checks payments.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
- Responsible for funds, equipment and/or property valued at $250,000.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School degree/GED and one-year certificate from college or technical school; or six to nine months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid driver’s license.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Bilingual helpful due to high volume of Spanish speaking customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to perform basic algebraic equations.
