Title: Public Works Project Coordinator

Pay: $35.26-53.34 Hourly (DOQ&E), plus benefits

Status: Full-time; 40 hours per week

Position Summary

The City is accepting applications for a full-time Public Works Project Coordinator.

This role involves reviewing land use and development applications to ensure compliance with city codes, Public Works Construction Standards, and relevant Capital Facility Plans. A key responsibility is providing both general and technical information to the public and development community regarding development construction, public infrastructure systems, and Public Works policies and procedures. The position requires interpreting and applying regulations related to Public Works projects and operations. Additionally, the role includes assisting in the planning, design, and construction of capital projects, coordinating efforts among city staff, department heads, consultants, contractors, and other governmental entities.

The position also entails maintaining tracking systems to monitor annual compliance with state regulatory requirements, including occupational safety and environmental regulations, such as backflow testing programs and water quality reporting. The role contributes to budget preparation for both operating and capital projects and oversees procurement processes to acquire necessary equipment and materials efficiently. This includes recommending and implementing methods to enhance the procurement of resources and professional services for the department.

Another key function is coordinating with GIS consultants to manage infrastructure mapping projects using GIS software, ensuring the ability to create detailed maps, graphics, and data queries as needed. Additionally, the role involves coordinating, preparing, and processing public event permits. The position also requires performing technical entry-level engineering tasks related to system operations and capital projects, including reviewing infrastructure plans for compliance with federal, state, and local codes and design standards. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is essential for creating detailed 2D designs. Lastly, the role includes coordinating and attending advisory committee meetings, advising on procedures, and managing meeting logistics to ensure smooth operations.

Position requirements, skills, and qualifications include the following:

Knowledge of the principles and procedures of public works, infrastructure construction and management, environmental regulation, project management, contract administration and occupational safety. Reasonable knowledge of municipal agencies and legal procedures in connection with the public works field. Sufficient human relations skills to convey technical concepts and guide professional, trades, and technical employees, and to work cooperatively with internal and external customers. Technical writing skills sufficient to prepare project specifications, requests for proposals, process documentation, staff reports, and communications suitable for external distribution.

Ability to understand public works, engineering, construction, environmental management principles. Perform research, compile technical data, draft recommendations and present them in writing and orally in a clear and concise fashion. Ability to comprehend and interpret laws, ordinances, codes and policies. Ability to work with diverse groups and to work within the varied political and social environments encountered. Ability to assist with preparing grant proposals. Computer literacy, familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, database and asset management software. Being proficient with GIS software is required.

Educational Background/Experience

Graduation from a two or four year college or university with a minimum of an associates degree in engineering, GIS or other technical Public Works related field or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above described duties.
