SUMMARY:
A temporary seasonal three (3) up to four (4) month position under the direct supervision of the assigned Superintendent in the Parks/Streets & Urban Forestry/Stormwater divisions and under the general supervision of the Parks & Public Works Director & Deputy Director. Performs duties associated with the maintenance and operations of the City's parks, streets, trails, street trees and open spaces. Schedule to include weekend shifts.- Performs a variety of maintenance activities including, but not limited to: restroom cleaning, emptying trash cans, mowing, pruning, weeding, mulching, watering, brush cutting, fertilizing and assisting maintenance personnel.
- Assists in maintenance of facilities in City parks and public works, including janitorial and minor repair activities as directed.
- This position is expected to operate and perform general maintenance of a variety of equipment, including but not limited to: mowers, weed trimmers, spray painting equipment and other light equipment, machinery, hand and power tools.

- High School diploma or GED.
- Valid Washington driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Certification in First Aid/CPR desirable.
- Ability to pass a standard background and reference check.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Knowledge of materials, equipment, and maintenance methods.
- Knowledge and ability to practice on the job safety practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Division Supervisors and lead workers, Parks & Public Works leadership, Parks & Public Works maintenance workers, other fellow employees, property owners and the public.
- Ability to operate small power lawn and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to receive and follow written & oral instructions.

The Seasonal Maintenance Worker may be assigned to hazardous work areas such as street surfaces, right of ways, medians, in ditches, pits and underground vaults, confined spaces, around heavy equipment and operating potentially dangerous tools. Physical strength and ability to perform moderate to heavy labor for extended periods of time in both indoor and outdoor parks and recreation facilities. Typical assignments are out of doors, occasionally requiring work in inclement weather at dirty, wet, noisy, or cramped work sites. The work involves strenuous physical labor, requiring physical dexterity and mechanical aptitude. Person will be required to lift 60 lbs.
