Salary Range: $19.42

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, provides fire suppression, prevention, emergency medical and rescue response operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans withDisabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Reports for shift on time and prepared to immediately commence duties.

· Responds to fire, rescue and emergency medical calls for service including providing fire suppression, emergency medical treatment, and assistance to technical rescue teams as assigned.

· Fills out First Care Forms PCR as directed by the base hospital.

· All Firefighters at a minimum be EMT’s. Firefighters with Paramedic Certification shall fulfill the duties as outlined in the SOG 101.11.

· Responds to and stabilizes incident area in hazardous materials incidents.

· Designates and establishes safe medical treatment area for the assessment, treatment, stabilization, and transportation of patients according to medical protocol and level of emergency medical certification.

· Participates in training to maintain and upgrade current physical fitness, firefighting, and emergency medical skills.

· Cleans, maintains, and inspects apparatus and equipment checks every shift.

· Cleans, maintains, and performs duties related to the maintenance and repair of fire station facility and equipment.

· Responds to requests for public assistance for moving invalids, welfare checks, smoke and Carbon Monoxide monitor checks, blood pressure, first aid standby and bomb threats.

· Provides fire safety, prevention, health assessments, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid training in the public schools or to other community groups upon request.

· Resolves routine problems encountered in performance of work assignments.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

· High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

· Must possess Fire Fighter I and II.

· Must possess AZ EMT.

· Must pass physical ability test and medical examination.

Knowledge of:

· Federal, National, State and City fire and life safety laws, rules, regulations, codes, practices, and procedures.

· Medical protocol related to emergency medical treatment practices, principles, and methods.

· Fire prevention and suppression methods, practices, and procedures for a variety of fire, hazardous material responses,

emergency medical services and rescue operations.

· Computers and related equipment, hardware, and software for preparing reports and maintaining records.

· Customer service methods and techniques.

Skill in:

· Effective oral and written communications.

· Responding to calls for service and providing emergency fire suppression, medical treatment, and rescue operations.

· Assessing injury, providing medical treatment, stabilizing, and transporting patients according to established medical protocol at level of emergency medical certification.

· Resolving customer complaints and concerns.

· Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

· A valid Driver’s License, and a good driving record.

· Arizona Emergency Medical Technician or National Registry.

· Hazmat First Responder Operations.

· CPR certifications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

· Work involves working rotating shifts and extended workdays outside the regular working hours.

· Required to work weekends, holidays, and shifts consist of 24 hours.

· May drive and operate emergency response vehicles and apparatus.

· Work requires wearing of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) or Hazmat Suit for extended periods of time, climbing, lifting, carrying and/or transporting equipment and individuals weighing up to 200 pounds.

· Functional vision, ability to differentiate colors, hearing to differentiate sounds (voice, horn) is required to perform essential functions.

· Work is performed in office and field environments.

· Work may involve potential exposure to extreme weather conditions, extreme heat, unstable buildings and structures, hazardous chemicals and materials, emergency disaster situations, body fluids, infectious diseases and air and water borne pathogens when responding to emergency and non-emergency incidents.

· Requires the safe use of a vehicle on City business.
