SALARY: up to $22.57 per hour.
POSITION SUMMARY: Performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the custodial care and maintenance of the Martin Luther King Dream Center campus and associated streetscapes. Performs cleaning tasks and other duties as assigned at other VPA properties. SCHEDULE: 7AM-3:30PM, M-F. OT opportunities and CDL bonus available. Special Events may necessitate additional coverage by the Custodial Work Group.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Applicable: Directs full and part time custodial staff at the Center and assists with other locations as needed.
- Performs general and heavy custodial work in the MLK Dream Center and attached properties.
- Inspects condition and cleanliness of facilities; prioritizes cleaning based on facility usage and custodial standards
- Operates an assortment of pushed, ridden, and hand carried cleaning equipment for routine cleaning maintenance, floor waxing, and other custodial proactices
- Power washes hard surfaces, uses cleaning products according to directions and standards
- Trouble shoots and perform small repairs to the equipment and facility
- Performs directed preventative maintenance tasks and schedules
- Communicate with part-time staff regarding work priorities and schedule changes
- Submit maintenance reports
- Log work both analogue and/or digitally
- Sets up and tear down equipment, tables, and chairs, for events
- Loads/unloads, stocks, inventories, organizes, and/or distributes supplies and equipment to/from various sites
- Picks up litter from the grounds and around facilities
- Maintains clean and safe work areas, tools, and equipment
- Opens and closes, locks and unlocks, arms and disarms facilities as needed
- Be able to communicate with the public as needed, good customer service
- May be required to work heights of 10ft or more on ladders
- Responds to unscheduled maintenance requests during working hours
- Maintains a positive attitude and consistent performance
- Able to maintain best practices and learn new custodial procedures
- Covers schedule gaps as needed in other locations and assists with larger cleaning projects and initiatives
NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:
- Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the duties of the position
- High school diploma or equivalent education preferred
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in custodial maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform physical labor
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
- Working knowledge of Windows operating system and Outlook
- Ability to hold and use a COSB provided purchasing card
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION:
- Valid Driver?s license required.
EQUIPMENT: Vacuum cleaners, power washer, auto scrubber, broom, touchless cleaning equipment, mop, dusting equipment, laptop, cell phone, cordless drill, and various hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, vice grips, ladders, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee infrequently works in high precarious places, with fumes or airborne particles, and with vibration. The noise level is moderate, except when operating power equipment.
