WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR
Are you looking for a fun, fast-paced summer job? We are looking for Swim Instructors to work at the South El Monte Aquatic Center. Not Certified? We will pay 100% of Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification class fees.
DEFINITION
Under direction from the Pool Manager and /or Assistant Pool Manager, plans, organizes, leads, and conducts swim instruction; coordinates and organizes activities and special events related to aquatic activities and swim classes; performs routine customer service and conducts pool use and swim safety in serving as aquatic facility lifeguard; performs related work as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Supervision is provided by the Recreation Coordinator, Pool Manager, and Assistant Pool Manger. Supervision is not exercised by this classification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Monitors aquatics facility and guests, and ensures compliance to rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Assists and performs any necessary rescues in compliance with the Emergency Action Plan.
- Oversees and observes operations and activities in aquatic facilities in absence of a pool manager or assistant pool manager.
- Coordinates and organizes activities and special events; instructs water safety and swim classes.
- Reports and resolves complaints, special requests, safety conditions, security issues and illegal activities within scope of authority.
- Responds to questions, issues and concerns and provides excellent customer service; promotes City goals and priorities in compliance with policies and procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues, client records and City information.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

- Lifesaving methods and the application of first aid.
- Policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct and safety of persons using the pool.
- Methods and practices of pool cleaning and maintenance.
- Rescue procedures for distressed swimmers.
- Administration of artificial respiration and first aid.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary. Example combinations include:
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Two (2) years of experience as a swim instructor is preferred.
Licenses and Certificates
- Valid certificate in Water Safety Instructor (WSI).
- Valid certificate in First Aid.
- Valid certificate in CPR/AED.
