What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Crossing Guard position at CITY OF SOUTH HAVEN?
Crossing Guards are responsible for the safe crossing of children at designated school crossings in the City of South Haven.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be on duty at the assigned crossing during the assigned hours.
- In accordance with State mandated procedures, provide safe crossing to children en route to and from school, at the assigned crossing.
- To report, as fully as possible and promptly as possible, any motorists' failure to stop in accordance with the State law.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to direct or escort children across street.
- Communicate traffic and crossing rules and other information to students and adults.
- Direct traffic movement or warn of hazards, using sign and hand signals

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Stop sign.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Will be required to stand for prolonged periods during the shift. Use of hands and arms for signaling. Ability to lift sign. Ability to see in the normal visual range and hear in the normal audio range with or without corrections.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The City of South Haven is a drug-free workplace. Work is completed outdoors and therefore is subject to inclement weather conditions. Will be exposed to moving vehicles, noise, and possibly slippery road surfaces.
