Overview
The City of South Hutchinson is seeking a dependable and skilled Street Maintenance Worker to join the Public Works Department. This position involves a variety of roadway maintenance and street cleaning tasks using light to medium equipment and machinery. The Street Maintenance Worker will be responsible for repairs, construction, mowing, snow and ice control, and equipment maintenance, with a focus on ensuring the safety and functionality of the city’s streets and infrastructure. This role may require after-hours emergency callouts, and candidates should be ready to work in all types of weather conditions. A strong mechanical aptitude, effective communication, and public relations skills are essential for success in this role.
Position Requirements:
· At least 1 year of relevant experience is preferred, with a strong preference for experience in heavy equipment operation and street maintenance.
· Ability to demonstrate competence in street maintenance and equipment operation within six months of employment.
· High school diploma or GED required; technical certifications or some college education preferred.
· Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and concrete work.
· Familiarity with relevant city and state regulations and compliance laws.
· Ability to engage in self-initiated problem solving, addressing issues related to street and equipment maintenance.
· Make decisions regarding the operation and maintenance of equipment under the direction of the Public Works Supervisor.
· Requires physical activity including lifting, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
· Ability to perform overhead work and operate heavy machinery.
· Must have or be able to obtain a valid Kansas driver's license before hire.
· A Class B CDL is preferred at the time of hire and required within six months of employment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.55 - $24.75 per hour
