Description
The City of South Lake Tahoe is currently recruiting for an Engineering Technician. The Engineering Technician will be responsible for various engineering and construction inspection activities. Duties will include but are not limited to supporting the engineering staff in data collection and preparing environmental documents and regulatory compliance reports, such as total maximum daily load (TMDL) reporting. Review of development site plans and knowledge of the Subdivision Map Act is desirable. Other duties will include preparation of encroachment permits and coordination with utility companies. Experience in construction inspection is highly desirable. This position will have both field and office responsibilities.
Engineering Technician I: $33.24 - $40.40 per hour
Engineering Technician II: $38.48 - $46.77 per hour

Engineering Technician I – This is an entry-level technical classification within the engineering series. Positions in this class are distinguished from higher level professional classes by the technical or mechanical nature of the duties performed, (including drawing, surveying, measuring, calculating, etc.) and by the more direct supervision received. The work performed requires judgment in the application of established guidelines to specific situations, with instruction or assistance from a supervisor on problems or unusual cases.
Engineering Technician II – This is a journey level technical classification within the engineering series. Positions in this class are distinguished from higher level professional classes by the technical or mechanical nature of the duties performed, (including drawing, surveying, measuring, calculating, etc.). The work performed requires judgment in the application of established guidelines to specific situations, with instruction or assistance from a supervisor on problems or unusual cases. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class series are flexibly staffed and are generally filled by advancement from the Engineering Technician I level, or when filled from the outside, require prior experience. Advancement to the Engineering Technician II level is based on demonstrated proficiency in performing the assigned functions and/or certification or testing that validates the performance of the full range of duties and is at the discretion of higher level supervisory or management staff.
