What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Architect position at City of South Lake Tahoe?
The City of South Lake Tahoe is currently recruiting for an Associate Architect. The Associate Architect is a mid-level manager who will be involved in designing and constructing new City facilities, including the ongoing Aquatic and Recreation Facility, a new Fire Station, a new Parks Department Facility, and the modification of over 43 City Facilities. The City has recently completed a Condition Assessment Study that has identified over $50 million in retrofit and upgrade projects. The Associate Architect will design and implement the identified upgrades with the Facilities Maintenance group. The Associate Architect must be a registered Architect in California.

Associate Civil Engineer/Architect – The Associate Civil Engineer/Architect is the full journey level class in the professional civil engineering/architectural classification. Positions in this class possess the applicable educational and training background required for classes in the professional civil engineering and architectural design and facilities projects, including appropriate certificates and licenses in the field, as well as practical work experience. The Associate Civil Engineer/Architect position is based on demonstrated proficiency in performing the assigned functions and/or certification or testing that validates the performance of the full range of duties and is at the discretion of higher level supervisory or management staff.

Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of civil, architectural, structural engineering, or facilities management as applied to public works, infrastructure, facilities and energy projects.
- Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the construction of public works and facilities projects.
- Principles of algebra, geometry and trigonometry and their application to architectural engineering.
- Strengths, properties and uses of engineering construction materials.
- Applicable laws and regulatory codes relevant to assigned area of responsibility.
- Modern standards of alignment, grade and compaction of streets.
- Topographic and construction surveying.
- Experience in Sustainability and Energy Efficiency requirements.

- Manage capital improvement projects under construction, including, coordinate with field inspectors and contractors; coordinate field modifications; administer contracts; process contractor payments; recommend contract change orders to the department head.
- Use drafting and surveying instruments to prepare maps, plans, cross-sections and profiles.
- Understand City engineering policies and procedures.
- Interpret and apply applicable laws and regulatory codes applicable to areas of assigned responsibility.
- Operate a computer and utilize a variety of software programs, including AutoDesk, Building Information Model (BIM), GIS software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Windows, in the performance of duties.
- Prepare reports encompassing raw technical data.
- Prepare effective quantity and cost estimates and recommendations.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Education/Training: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in architectural, structural, civil engineering or a related field.
Experience: Two years of responsible professional architecture, civil engineering, or facilities design experience performing duties comparable to those of a journey-level architect or facilities manager/designer.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid California or Nevada driver’s license.
Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a professional civil engineer or architect license in the State of California.

Disaster Service Worker
All full-time, permanent City employees are required to provide services as Disaster Service Workers in the event of an emergency/disaster.
Salary : $114,950 - $139,713
