Position Description : Facilities Maintenance Technician I

Department : Neighborhoods

Position Grade : 15

Supervisor : Parks and Facilities Manager

FLSA Status : Non-exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Parks and Facility Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Technician I performs a variety of unskilled and skilled tasks in the custodial care and maintenance of City-owned buildings and properties.

The Department of Neighborhoods includes the following divisions : Communications, Code Enforcement, Animal Services, Facilities, Parks, Property Management, and Arts Council.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Performs custodial and light maintenance work

1.1 Sweeps, vacuums, mops, dusts, waxes, polishes, buffs floor, maintains clean carpets, and furniture.

1.2 Cleans interior and exterior surfaces, including windows, doors, walls.

1.3 Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies.

1.4 Empties garbage receptacles and picks up garbage.

1.5 Cleans drinking fountains, tables, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc.

1.6 Cleans up spills, hazards, or other damages.

1.7 Performs ground maintenance including snow removal, litter pickup, landscaping.

1.8 Inspects and maintains assigned custodial equipment for proper operating condition.

1.9 Evaluates status of facilities and requests needed repairs.

1.10 Performs basic repairs and preventative maintenance, such as changing lightbulbs.

1.11 Drives between different facilities and transports equipment and tools as needed.

  • Prepares and supervises facilities for public use
  • 2.1 Opens and closes, locks, and unlocks facilities and sets security alarms.

    2.2 Arranges facilities for special events; sets up and takes down tables and chairs.

    2.3 Maintains security during center activities.

    2.4 Communicates with building users and renters, responds to requests and provides good customer service.

  • Keeps accurate records
  • 3.1 Keeps records of work completed.

    3.2 Keeps records of building incidents and requests.

    3.3 Orders and inventories custodial and maintenance supplies.

  • Works with others to complete tasks as requested
  • 4.1 Working as a team to complete complex or large projects.

    4.2 Works with volunteers and community service workers.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • One year (1) of experience in repair, maintenance or custodial work, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license or obtain one prior to employment.
  • NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building maintenance.
  • Knowledge of equipment, materials and techniques used to do minor repairs.
  • Skill in operation of floor buffers, carpet cleaners, vacuum, mop, broom, and dusting equipment.
  • Skill in use of computers and basic software, including internet, email, and word-processing.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide a high standard of customer service to facility users and visitors.
  • Ability to work independently and to use good judgement.
  • Ability to complete daily tasks according to work schedule.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle between facilities.
  • Ability to maintain regular daily attendance is an essential function for this position.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, run, use hands to feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places, and exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, heat and cold fumes or airborne particles, and toxic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

    The employee is required to wear a uniform and personal protective equipment as needed including safety vest, long pants, boots, ear, and eye protection.

    The employee may work alone and at some times of day may be the only person in the facility.

    Evening and weekend shifts are required.

    Salary : $18 - $27
