SUMMARY
The Afterschool Boxing Specialist works directly with youth from diverse backgrounds to provide a safe, responsible, well-supervised afterschool program while acting as a positive adult role model. The Afterschool Boxing Specialist provides positive leadership and establishes a structured program to give Promise South Salt Lake program participants the stability and nurturing environment they need for growth and success. The Afterschool Boxing Specialist primarily works with the Central Park PAL Boxing program, provides coaching and mentorship, as well as a well-rounded program including academic support.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Delivers developmentally appropriate activities (academics and boxing related) to address grant objectives and goals for youth participating in the program
1.1 Becomes familiar with, selects, and plans boxing related activities and fitness programming
1.2 Leads and supervises groups of youth and addresses behavior issues when they arise
1.3 Ensures participants participate in homework, tutoring, or other academic activities to stay qualified for the boxing program
2. Assists Assistant Coordinator in reporting requirements
2.1 Collects accurate attendance and activity participation of youth
2.2 Communicates successes and challenges regarding youth to direct supervisors
3. Additional responsibilities
3.1 Arrives on time for scheduled shifts and all required staff meetings, trainings, and events
3.2 Serves snacks and dinner, as well as oversees mealtimes (may need Food Handler's Permit)
3.3 Maintains daily cleanliness of all program areas (office, classrooms, gym, kitchen, etc.)
3.4 Works at city-sponsored events periodically, typically held 1-2 times per month on a Friday evening or Saturday morning
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Experience with boxing rules, regulations, and safety procedures
- High School Diploma or GED required, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience
- Experience working with youth; afterschool or recreation environment preferred
