The City of Southaven is looking for a semi-skilled construction technician to help maintain the City's public facilities. Position Overview:

Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled and skilled routine daily activities in the maintenance, repair and construction tasks in public facilities. Performs construction and carpentry work for structural and architectural details. Specializes in construction and carpentry work.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs maintenance, diagnostic and carpentry work in the repair, renovation or construction of city facilities or structures.
  • Installs, maintains and/or repairs flooring, roofing, ceilings, sheetrock, doors, walls, window frames, etc.
  • Applies finishes, including but not limited to paint and stain, to various surfaces.
  • Practices preventative maintenance of tools and equipment by performing spot checks of equipment to determine their working condition, cleaning and servicing tools and equipment as need.
  • Assist co-workers with maintenance duties as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of generalized building maintenance and repair.
  • Operational knowledge of carpenter’s tools and power equipment.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Vocational or technical training in field
  • 4 years’ experience performing generalized building maintenance and repair.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license from state of residency

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

This position requires working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including wet, hot and cold. The position entails working in situations that may expose the employee to fumes or airborne particles, electrical shock or mechanical hazards. Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, crawling, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily activities. The nature of the work may also require the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles, work in heavy construction areas and often work with constant interruptions. Constantly lifting items greater than 80 lbs.

Salary : $25,000
