Base Salary: $53,276
EMT-Basic Stipend $600
Annual Total: $53,876 Qualifying Overtime = $54,936
Hazardous Material Technician Stipend is Available for Qualified Candidates - $600 Annually
EMT-Paramedic Stipend is available for Qualified Candidates - $6,000 Annually
Firefighter II Promotion ($59,718) is available after successfully obtaining State Firefighter Certification.

The Southaven Fire Department is currently accepting applications to hire Uncertified Firefighters who meet the following requirements:
- Applicant must obtain a MS State EMT license through the Mississippi Health Department within 1 year of employment or offering.
- Applicant must obtain and maintain a MS EMS Driver License in order to drive an ambulance and/or other department vehicles under routine and emergency conditions.
- Applicant must become a Certified Firefighter and/or be able to gain reciprocity to the State of Mississippi Minimum Standards Board within 1 year of employment or offering.
- Applications are only accepted via the City of Southaven website or at the reception desk on the first floor.
- Do not submit certificates at this time.
- All candidates will be required to successfully complete all Physical ability tests for Firefighter.
- All candidates will be given direction and time to prepare for the tests prior to the actual date.
All candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. All candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment DOT physical examination, drug screen, and background check.
Our Vision
The vision for the Southaven Fire Department is to become a “model” emergency services department for similar type and size departments located throughout the state, region, and nation.
Such a department would be known for its progressive and aggressive but safe fire suppression efforts. It would provide fire prevention and public fire education programs designed to prevent and deter fire and other emergencies from occurring based on target areas identified. It would support ongoing training and educational efforts of departmental personnel to maintain and enhance their knowledge and skills to perform their duties. The department would offer other non-traditional, non-emergency services that help enhance the quality of life of those we serve.
Mission Statement
It is the primary mission of the Southaven Fire/EMS Department to provide a range of programs designed to protect the lives and property of the citizens, workers, and visitors of the City of Southaven from the adverse effects of fires, sudden medical emergencies, or exposure to dangerous conditions.
The Department employs competent, professional fire and emergency medical service personnel and is devoted to providing adequate training opportunities for them to maintain their skills and knowledge base levels and to allow for safe operations.
