Representative Job Duties
Assists the City Clerk and Deputy City Clerk in all aspects of departmental duties, including supervising and coordinating the preparation and conducting of elections; registering and transferring voters; confirming eligibility for and issuing licenses; maintaining official City and vital records; processing FOIA requests; providing staff support to the City Council; supervising department staff; performing administrative duties of the City Clerk's office, including payroll, budgeting, invoices, etc. Other duties as assigned and outlined in the City Charter. The City Clerk's Office Supervisor reports to the City Clerk / Deputy Clerk. This position provides confidential services for Clerk's office.
Job Requirements - As Determined By the City Of Southfield
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent relevant experience, and / or Certified Municipal Clerk designation.
- At least three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in municipal government, resulting in expertise in staff supervision and organization skills; the state and local legislative process; current election equipment, procedures, and laws; the ability to recognize, analyze, and address complex and / or sensitive matters related to all aspects of municipal operations.
- Considerable knowledge and expertise in the use of personal computers, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
- Positive, public service attitude and ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public, elected officials, and City staff. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; ability to maintain the confidentiality of material not subject to disclosure.
- Availability for night meetings, extended hours during elections, as well as ability to address urgent City business during non-business hours as necessary. Applicants will be subject to a criminal history background check.
- Provides confidential duties related to labor relations and employee relations.
Supplemental Information
This is a confidential position. This position is open to all ACS and Union career employees only. Pay Grade 314 - $54,472 to $81,627, with the starting salary dependent upon qualifications.
