Utilities Maintenance Worker
Job Description
Conducts a variety of maintenance functions for the City of Spearman Public Works Department, including, but not limited to, operating/maintaining departmental equipment and tools and performing other duties as assigned related to the city's utility systems (gas, water & sewer), streets, etc.
JOB DUTIES
- Perform skilled work in the repair and maintenance of city streets, sidewalks, etc.
- Perform skilled repairs and maintenance to the city’s gas, water and sewer collection systems including; gas, water, and sewer taps; lift stations; existing gas, water and sewer mains, lines and meters; and installation of new gas, water and sewer lines.
- Operate light and heavy equipment including bulldozers, backhoes, excavator, loaders, rollers, sweepers, dump trucks, tractors, sewer machine, hydrovac and mowers.
- Work independently and with other employees to complete daily public work operations.
- Fill out and submit all forms and paperwork as instructed by supervisors.
- Work outdoors and during inclement weather i.e., heat, rain, cold, snow, etc.
- Available for 24-hour emergency call out and work on-call rotation.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Meet with private entities and customers.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Communicate effectively with other employees.
- Interpret written and verbal instructions.
- Follow all safety rules and procedures and assist in fostering safety policies.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Public works experience preferred but not required. Will train the right candidate.
- Must be able and willing to obtain TCEQ Class D Water & Wastewater certifications within an allotted time.
- Have a valid Texas Driver's License.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings upon employment.
SALARY: Beginning $14.50/hr, depending on experience, along with excellent city-provided benefits including health insurance, retirement, vacation, paid holidays and uniforms after successful completion of probationary period.
