POSITION DESCRIPTION
The City of Spokane’s Integrated Capital Management Department (ICM) is seeking a temporary GIS Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and have strong communication skills to convey technical information.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position reports directly to ICM GIS staff. Exercises no direct supervision of employees, but may exercise technical and functional guidance to, and provides training to staff and stakeholders.
The following Responsibilities and Requirements are functions the individual who holds or desires the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform field data collection using standard GPS equipment and ArcGIS Field Maps
- Use Esri and other software provider tools to create and maintain GIS layers and associated metadata
- Develop maps and reports and provide GIS user support as needed
- Provide GIS support to city departments as directed
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience using Esri’s ArcGIS software suite
- Experience creating GIS data layers and working with enterprise geodatabases
- Experience using GPS equipment and integrating GPS data with GIS formats
- An understanding of cartographic design principles and best practices
- Experience with web-based GIS platforms such as ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS
- Experience with GIS editing tools, workflow processes and QA/QC procedures
- Must be a self-starter willing to work on a wide variety of tasks with minimal supervision
- Work will require collecting GPS information and data gathering outdoors while carrying more than 10 lbs. of equipment. Field work expected to be 75% or more of job duties.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment
- Possess a valid government issued ID and Social Security Card and drivers license.
- Required to submit to a background check
- Availability to work weekdays between 8 am and 5 pm
