Job Standards
The Office of Public Works is seeking an individual to educate the public including businesses, nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and neighborhood associations on the importance and benefits of trees. Create a corps of volunteer Tree Advocates within the City, placing priority on neighborhoods with low tree equity. Serve as a liaison between the Office of Public Works and the community regarding tree planting and tree maintenance with a focus on neighborhoods with low tree equity. Develop an outreach program for marginalized neighborhoods and conducting educational programs. Supervise temporary arbor seasonal workers. This position requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with courses in urban forestry, or five years of progressively responsible experience in the Arboriculture field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. The ability to acquire and maintain ISA Certified Arborist certification within time frame specified by the City of Springfield and possession of a valid Class D driver’s license is also required. Experience with community organizations is preferred. This position is funded by a four-year grant.
