Job Standards
The Springfield Police Department, Field Operations is seeking an individual to support sworn Springfield Police Department Officers, Investigators, and civilian employees, along with regional law enforcement partners through performance level strategic and tactical work. Pro-actively monitor camera systems and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), as well as other external software assets relating to real time law enforcement situations and activities. Responsible for reporting any criminal, unauthorized, or irregular activity to corresponding public safety dispatchers and/or on-scene/appropriate law enforcement officers, as well as virtually assist in the response to in-progress incidents through communication and direction. Receive, evaluate, and transmit information to both internal and external agency law enforcement officers and first responders, providing situational awareness updates, utilizing police radios to transmit information for priority calls, and will work in conjunction with analyst partners across several external agencies. Review daily bulletins and analyze crime statistics, incident reports, and CAD data to remain current on wanted and active criminal suspects, stolen vehicles, and other crime and officer safety concern. Provide tactical and strategic intelligence, analyze crime records, and research various criminal, commercial, homeland security and open source databases. This position will require communication across multiple platforms simultaneously in a high stress environment. This position requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of a Bachelor's degree with courses in data processing, mathematics, statistics or law enforcement; or two years of college credit and a combination of training and experience in the field of law enforcement (to equal four years); or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must furnish information for and pass the required background investigation. Must sign the Department issued confidentiality statement. May be required to work overtime and/or weekends. Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.
