Position Purpose/Summary
Responsible for the maintenance of park fields. Work is performed under supervision of a higher grade in accordance with accepted trade practices with review through inspections during process and upon completion for conformance to established departmental standards. No supervision is exercised over others.
Essential Functions
- Maintains parks by weeding, cutting grass, trimming trees, blowing leaves, removing snow, and sanding sidewalks.
- Maintains park equipment.
- Picks up trash, empties trash bins, and clears illegal dump sites.
- Sets-up and closes events in parks.
- Maintains athletic fields.
- May operate motor equipment of from light to moderate tonnage.
- Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, equipment processes, and techniques of the work performed.
- Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in work performed.
- Some knowledge of the fundamentals of a variety of skilled trades.
- Ability to work from written and oral instructions, sketches, and drawings.
- Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment, and materials employed in the work performed.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent, including or supplemented by training in a specialized trade.
- At least two years of experience in the work performed.
