Description
Building Development Services is seeking a self-motivated customer service focused individual for the position of Land Use Inspector. This position performs a variety of inspections and investigations throughout the City and conducts inspections to ensure a safe environment for the building occupants and the general public. In this role, you will perform field inspections and investigations, enforce local regulations to include all aspects of code and zoning ordinances. This position will play a critical role in preserving the community's quality, building relationships and fostering public/private cooperation, and ensuring the potential for development in all areas of the community.
What you can expect in the role:
- Investigate complaints regarding the adopted Nuisance and Zoning ordinances.
- Educate, advise, and interpret applicable laws, codes, and ordinances as they relate to Nuisance and Zoning issues.
- Perform inspections on residential and commercial lots related to the adopted Nuisance and Zoning Ordinances of the City.
- Enforce legal orders and coordinate abatements as needed regarding compliance of Nuisance and Zoning codes.
- Represent Building Development Services in court and other hearings related to inspections.

Qualifications and Requirements
Experience, Education, and Training
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering Environmental Science or related area of study;
AND
- One year of experience in the field of code enforcement or a directly related area;
OR
- An Associate's Degree in above or related discipline;
AND
- Three years experience in the field of code enforcement, environmental related area or a directly related area;
- Directly related experience in a directly related area such as construction, inspection work dealing with housing and zoning, or an environmental related area may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Licensing/Certification
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
