As a Maintenance Worker for the City of Springfield, you will have the opportunity to serve the community working in a variety of capacities and departments such as Environmental Services or Public Works. Maintenance Workers assist in the repair and maintenance of city streets, sewers, waterways, bridges, parks, right-of-ways, watersheds, grounds, and/or other city property. Maintenance Workers also perform equipment operation such as dump trucks, salt spreaders, snow plows, and other similar equipment.

Qualifications and Requirements
Experience, Education, and Training
- A minimum of one year of experience (or 6 months if candidate has direct City of Springfield experience in one of these areas) in the operation of dump trucks, flusher trucks, skid-steer loaders, front-end loaders or comparable equipment operation;
- One year of maintenance and/or construction work comparable to work completed in the Parks, Environmental Services & Public Works Departments in such areas as street/road work, grounds work, maintaining sports fields, agriculture, and sewer or utility pipe line work.
Licensing/Certification
- Must take and pass, at minimum, the written portion of the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) exam (permit) within 90 days of hire.
- A class "B" CDL, at minimum, must then be obtained within the probationary period.
- Some assignments require the driver to have the ability to operate a vehicle with airbrakes.
- Candidates must possess endorsements such as tanker and/or a class "A" license in order to qualify for some assignments.
- Candidates must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification within the probationary period.
