This recruitment will be used to staff multiple spring/summer crews with various start dates throughout the season. These positions are temporary and do not exceed 693 hours. We are looking for candidates who are familiar with or willing to learn tasks that occur in maintaining City infrastructure, specifically in landscape maintenance and surface drainage programs. Summary of Essential Duties: Duties may include: •Participate in shrub and tree planting•May assist in irrigation line repairs and sprinkler head replacements•Maintains shrubs and planter beds by trimming and weeding•May provide assistance to the tree trimming crew by trimming trees and chipping branches•Implement vegetation control using weed eaters•Mow turfgrass with push mowers•Pick up litter and some custodial duties•Maintain stormwater quality facilities (Ex: vegetation control for bio-swales and raingardens)•Operate light power equipment•Provide written and oral reports as required. Preference may be given based on qualifications and experience: •Have been previously employed by the City of Springfield as a Seasonal WorkerLicenses and other Requirements: •Employees must be at least 18 years of age to meet Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industry standards for operating equipment.•Valid Oregon Driver’s License at time of appointment.Physical Requirements: Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects. Position frequently works in varying outdoor weather conditions performing strenuous physical work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.Selection and Interview Process: The selection process will include: interviews, reference checks, background check; as well as, post-offer (conditional offer) medical certification, drug and alcohol screening, and physical abilities test.Top candidates will be invited to interview.
