What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Water Safety Director position at City of Springfield?
Responsible for the aquatic facility operations including, but not limited too, supervising the life guarding team and bath attendants, maintaining the facility, planning and conducting in-service trainings, completing all required paperwork and for the safety of the patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.
- Ensuring the safety of the facility patrons and lifeguard team
- Supervising the lifeguard team/bath attendants
- Supervising the safety inspections, general care, and cleaning of the facility
- Enforce all aquatic rules, policies, and regulations to ALL patrons
- Make sure all paperwork is completed fully and correctly
- Conduct regular in-service training sessions and document results
- Ensure all users are signed in properly and have I.D.’s
- Instruct, assign, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards in the performance of their duties – document everything
- Thorough knowledge and application of life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques
- The ability to instruct, assign, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards in the performance of their duties
- An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, polices, and procedures
- Leadership and public relation skills
- Decision making skills / ability to problem solve
- Supervisory management skills
- Ability to identify hazards and unsafe practices and to make suitable recommendations for minimizing or eliminating those hazards
- Application of all forms and proper usage
One year lifeguard experience preferred
Current certification in the following is needed:

- American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training/First Aid
- American Red Cross or American Heart CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- American Red Cross Waterfront Life guarding, if working at 5-Mile Pond
