Position Summary:
The Mars Theatre Director is a dynamic and visionary leader responsible for the overall management and success of the theatre. This position requires a strategic thinker with a passion for the arts, strong business acumen, and excellent communication skills. The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance the theatre's programming, marketing, community engagement, and financial sustainability. This is an outward-facing role requiring attendance at high-investment/community-centric events, including nights and weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a strategic plan for the theatre that aligns with the city's overall vision and maximizes the theatre's potential as a cultural and economic hub.
- Financial Management: Oversee the theatre's budget, including revenue generation, expense control, and grant writing. Actively pursue grant opportunities and develop fundraising strategies through the Friends of the Mars (FOM) and sponsorships.
- Programming and Event Management: Curate a diverse and engaging program of events that appeals to a broad audience. Oversee all aspects of event production, including scheduling, contracting, and technical requirements.
- Marketing and Public Relations: Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and public relations plan to promote the theatre and its events. This includes leveraging social media, traditional media, and community outreach.
- Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with the community, including local businesses, organizations, and residents. Develop outreach programs to engage diverse audiences and foster a sense of ownership in the theatre.
- Staff Supervision: Collaborate with the House Manager on front-of-house operations and staffing needs. Ensure compliance with regulations regarding alcohol sales.
- Partnership Development: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the City of Springfield, City Council, DDA, Effingham Chamber of Commerce, and other community partners.
- Facility Management: . Oversee facility maintenance and ensure a safe and welcoming environment for patrons.
- Reporting and Evaluation: Provide regular reports to the City on the theatre's performance, including financial data, attendance figures, and marketing metrics.
- Box Office and Ticketing: Oversee box office operations and ensure the efficient use of the AGILE ticketing system.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in theatre management, arts administration, marketing, or a related field preferred.
- Strong financial management skills and experience with budget development and grant writing.
- Excellent marketing and public relations skills, including experience with social media marketing.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for the arts and commitment to community engagement.
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of design software.

Compensation:
Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
