Description

This position is responsible for performing and assisting with a variety of manual, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks including, but not limited to, the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City's Sanitary Sewer collection and Water Distribution systems.
Examples of Duties
- Provide general labor to the Environmental Services Division.
- Repair and replace sanitary lines, catch basins, manholes, culverts, retaining walls, yards, fences, and broken/damaged sewer pipes.
- Inspect and maintain trunk sewer lines, manholes, river/creek basins, and other related areas.
- Maintain and repair the water distribution system including broken water mains, distribution valves, fire hydrants, and b-boxes.
- May use a wide variety of manual and powered tools and equipment including Insta-valve, jackhammers, picks, power saws, pumps, shovels, tapping machine, jetter, vac truck, and other related equipment.
- Respond to emergency calls for sanitary sewer backups, water main breaks, flooding, emergency utility locations, etc.
- Assist in citywide programs and abatement of emergency situations, such as snow and ice removal.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in public works or construction industry.
- Work under varying physical and environmental conditions, including confined spaces, and lift to 75 lbs.
- Must be willing to respond to after-hours emergency callouts, reporting no later than 60 minutes of call.
- Valid class A CDL with appropriate endorsementsor obtain within 6 months of hire (in-house training available).
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with elected and appointed officials, co-workers, agencies, other governmental units, and the public are required.
- If selected, successful completion of a thorough background check, physical, functional capacity evaluation and drug screen will be required.
Supplemental Information
Pay range is $30.01 - $40.01 per the Teamster's Collective Bargaining Agreement (Download PDF reader) with starting pay commensurate with experience.
