The City of St. Cloud is hiring Building Inspectors at levels I, II, and III. This role involves performing site inspections for skilled trades, ensuring compliance with Florida Building Codes, and investigating issues related to construction and code compliance. We are seeking detail-oriented professionals dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Inspects construction at approved sites at various stages of construction for compliance with approved plans and code standards, issues notices of violation in instances of non-compliance.
  • Prepares documentation for legal review in cases of continued non-compliance and submits documentation.
  • Receives notices of violations and conducts inspections.
  • Maintains records of inspections and other work performed and compiles data.
  • Interprets codes for local applications and provides information to the public.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized supplemented by five (4) years of construction experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

You must meet one of the following options:

Option 1: Must have one of the following licenses:

  • Standard Inspector -Building.
  • Standard Inspector -Mechanical.
  • Standard Inspector -Electric.
  • Standard Inspector -Plumbing.

Option 2:
  • Must apply for a provisional Standard Residential Inspector Provisional License within the first 30 days of hire.
  • Must obtain within the first 180 days of hire a Standard Residential Inspector Provisional License.
  • Must obtain within two (2) years of hire a Standard Residential Inspector Certification.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

Mathematics:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
