What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Services Technician position at City of St. Cloud?
WORK HOURS: 6:30 am to 3:30 pm with stand-by hours
The purpose of this position is to diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles and mechanical equipment such as automobiles, trucks, small engines, heavy construction equipment, and specialized municipal equipment such as refuse trucks, street sweepers and sewer cleaning machines. This position reports to the Fleet Supervisor.
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
- Diagnose, repair and test engines and drivetrains and their control systems.
- Diagnose, repair and test hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components.
- Diagnose, repair and test electrical systems and components.
- Diagnose, repair and test brake, steering, and suspension systems and components.
- Diagnose, repair and test HVAC systems and components.
- Remove, install, mount, dismount, balance, and repair automotive, truck, trailer, and small equipment tires.
- Install, remove, and repair automotive and truck accessory equipment.
- Prepare new vehicles and equipment for service; prepare surplus vehicles and equipment for disposal.
- Subject to on-call assignment as required; respond to calls for service and repair in the field.
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspection.
- Perform related work as assigned.
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by one (1) to two (2) years professional experience in vehicle repair and maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
ASE or other relevant certification preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida state Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class “B” within 180 days of employment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Mathematics:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of geometry.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate/ loud.
Salary : $23 - $31
