The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Performs skilled work in trimming, pruning and repairing; removing diseased, broken and/or hazardous limbs for the safety, care, maintenance and/or aesthetic appearance of trees/palms.
- Performs skilled work in the removal and disposal of the entire tree/palm or planting, relocating, replacing and/or preserving trees/palms as required.
- Performs skilled work in staking branches/debris/brush for disposal; cleans worksite after completion of removed brush, limbs, fronds, and/or grindings.
- Operates large, medium and small equipment and/or vehicles as necessary, including, the bucket truck; clam truck; water truck; and/or lift; chipper; stump grinder and/or other equipment assigned to the Turf and Landscape Division; on work sites, rights-of-way, park areas and/or other City properties.
- Performs routine maintenance checks, servicing, and cleaning of all equipment prior to and subsequent to operation.
- Communicates verbally or in-writing and/or answers citizen inquires when approached on the job; provides information on the nature of the work and schedule; refers more complex questions to the Superintendent. If required, fills out and files citizen complaint forms and submits them to the Superintendent.
- Follows guidelines in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards; and, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI); and, local Ordinances set by the City for tree/palm preservation, protection, care/maintenance, and/or other operations implemented.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by one (1) year of experience in the Arboriculture Industry; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Possession of a valid Florida state commercial driver's license, Class A restricted license preferred or able to attain within 365 days and an acceptable driving history.

Mathematics:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Language Ability:
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Reasoning:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
