About the Position
Are you looking to start a career with the City of St. Paul? Our Parks and Recreation department is hiring diverse and talented individuals to join our team. As a Park Security Officer, you will gain the skills to set you up for a career in public safety.
Here's what you can expect to do in this position: Patrols designated park areas, provides security presence, and reports suspicious activity as necessary.
- Enforces Parks and Recreation rules and regulations and City ordinances, and issues citations as necessary.
- Opens and/or locks park gates, restrooms and other facilities.
- Checks buildings to ensure they are secured, lights and alarms are working, temperatures are set at the appropriate levels, and reports safety and health hazards, damages, and vandalism to supervisor or the appropriate staff.
- Responds to calls from the alarm company, assesses information obtained from the alarm company, and determines if parks security or the Saint Paul Police Department (SPPD) should respond.
- Drives a motor vehicle, rides a bicycle, and walks while performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
Location: The current openings are in the Parks and Recreation's Operations building located at 1100 Hamline Avenue North, Saint Paul, MN 55108.
Hours: Must be available to work four 10 hour workdays; mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Position Requirements
Two years of work experience in customer service with at least one year to include law enforcement, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), security, or community engagement work.
OR
Six months of experience in security, community engagement, or customer service and enrollment in an accredited law enforcement, criminal justice, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), paramedic, or occupational safety and health program.
AND
- Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR and First Aid certification within in three months of employment
Some positions in this classification may require the ability to speak languages other than English.

Assessment: Qualifications Rating
The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application and answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire. Be as specific and detailed as possible in completing your application and questionnaire. You must submit your completed application and supplemental questionnaire by the application deadline.
Open Job Posting: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements.
Eligible Lists: Eligible lists are typically created from a pass/fail assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list.
Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
Pre-Employment Screening: This position requires a medical exam, driver’s license check, and a background check which includes a criminal history, and employment history as a condition of employment.
