What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks Services Assistant position at City of St. Paul?
About the Position
This position will join the Parks and Recreation Golf team and assist with the management and operation of Highland Golf early spring through summer (weather dependent) and will also assist with Winter Snow Sports at Battle Creek, Como, Highland, and Phalen from early fall through winter (weather dependent).
Here’s what you can expect to do:
- Provide customer service specific to golf by welcoming, assisting, and orienting visitors to golf programs.
- Provide accurate program and facility information to the public in person, by telephone, or in writing via email and social media.
- Register participants in recreation management software programs, monitor enrollment, make necessary adjustments, and track attendance.
- Sell and collect fees for admission, tee times, merchandise, food, beverages, etc.
- Prepare and serve food and beverages for consumption on the premises.
- Assist in taking inventories of consumables, equipment, and merchandise.
- Fit customers with rental equipment and provides related instructions.
- Organize, lead, and monitor entry and intermediate level public programs and activities.
- Instruct, train, and demonstrate to participants various recreational skills, techniques, rules, and strategy.

- Non-traditional working hours including weekends and second shift.
- Will require working outdoors in various weather and environmental conditions.
- Facilities operate from 6am - 10pm seven days a week.
- Scheduled hours will be 30 - 40 hours per week.
The eligible list created from this assessment will also be used to fill Parks Services Assistant positions as they become available in Parks and Recreation.

Position Requirements
Must be 16 years of age or older.
Experience related to customer service and/or cash handling.

Assessment: Qualifications Rating
The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application and answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire. Be as specific and detailed as possible in completing your application and questionnaire. You must submit your completed application and supplemental questionnaire by the application deadline.
Eligible Lists Created from Open Job Posting: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Non-promotion eligible lists typically are pass/fail and promotion eligible lists are typically ranked. If the open eligible list created contains a veteran, one open list will exist. When there are no veterans remaining on the eligible list (i.e. hired, withdrawn) from an open list that also contains promotional candidates, two lists will be created: one open list and one promotion list. If two lists exist, the promotion list must be exhausted before the open list is considered.
Final Selection Process: Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
