What are the responsibilities and job description for the Claims Assistant position at City of St. Petersburg?
This is responsible administrative work involving general liability and workers compensation claims activities. Work includes communicating with the public via telephone and email, processing office memoranda, and assisting with claim administration from case file setup to closure. This position also involves preparing documents for litigation purposes and attending to a variety of administrative and clerical responsibilities. These duties include but are not limited to responding to emails, answering telephone calls, and working with office equipment (computer, scanner, and copier).
Salary: $20.32 - $30.97 Hourly

To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Have a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Be skilled in the use of personal computers and administrative support software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Be able to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing and effectively explain technical claims problems or procedures in simple, non-technical language.
- Be able to prioritize work to meet time requirements and to maintain files in an organized manner.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have at least one year of experience with at least one of the following: auto liability, public liability, or commercial liability claims, including the investigation, evaluation, negotiation and settlement of bodily injury and property damage claims.
- Have some knowledge of insurance claims processing and General Liability claims rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Are skilled in claims administration.
- Are able to maintain effective relationships with employees, attorneys, citizens, investigators and other agencies or departments.
