What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator III position at City of St. Petersburg?
This is skilled work in the City’s Stormwater, Pavement, and Traffic Operations Department, operating heavy-duty motor vehicle type equipment, of moderate operational complexity, used in large scale construction and maintenance activities, including backhoes, front end loaders, and skid steers. An employee in this class may have intermittent responsibility for leading a small crew of workers in maintenance, repair, and construction work.
Salary: $23.71 - $33.30 Hourly

To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver License with “N” endorsement.
- Obtain and maintain a State of Florida Class “A” Commercial Driver License with “N” endorsement within 12 months of appointment to the position.
- Be experienced in the use of heavy equipment.
- Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
- Be able to perform strenuous manual labor, sometime under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have at least one year of experience in the operation of backhoes, front-end loaders, street sweepers, and skid steers.
- Have considerable knowledge of or experience with materials, equipment, tools, methods, and techniques used in various types of repair and construction projects and of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved.
- Have some supervisory experience.
