What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Plant Operator I or II (Cosme) position at City of St. Petersburg?
This is semi-skilled work in the operation and inspection of a potable water treatment plant or pumping station on a permanent or rotating shift at the Cosme Water Plant in Northwest Hillsborough County. Work requires the exercise of sound judgment and experience to make minor adjustments to machinery, equipment and related apparatus in accordance with established operating procedures and standards.
Salary: $20.96 - $35.08 Hourly**

**The starting salary and selection into a Water Plant Operator position, at level I or level II, will depend upon qualifications and experience. The entry level pay for Operator II is $25.15 hourly.
To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.
- Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Possess and continue to maintain a State of Florida Water Operator “C” Certificate for water purification -or- must obtain the Certificate within two (2) years of appointment to the position.
- Possess and continue to maintain a State of Florida Water Operator “C” Certificate for water purification at the time of application to be considered for the Water Plant Operator II position.
- Be able to accurately perform basic water treatment chemistry tests following detailed procedures.
- Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
- Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, an applicant must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have some experience in the operation of a potable water treatment plant or pumping station.
- Have six (6) months experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical machinery similar to that used in a potable water treatment plant or pumping station.
- Are able to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Are able to maintain accurate and detailed operating records and input information into a computer terminal following written instructions.
