What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commissioner / Committee Member position at City of Stanton?
This is a part-time essential volunteer position with the City of Stanton.
The City of Stanton requests information from community members who are interested in serving on a City Commission/Committee. This request does not constitute an appointment as such appointments are made by the City Council. In accordance with the Stanton Municipal Code, terms of office for each Commissioner/Committee Member shall coincide with the term of office of the Council Member who made the appointment (each term expires in November 2026/2028).
Section 2.06 of the Stanton Municipal Code requires the submission of applications and interviews prior to appointment to any position.Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission consists of seven members who meet on the third Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission is appointed by the City Council and acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council and City staff in matters pertaining to development/rehabilitation of parks and recreation facilities, recreation and youth services, senior citizen and human services, cultural arts services, neighborhood improvement, grants or other funding, and other matters as may be referred to the Commission by City Council from time to time.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission consists of five members who meet on the first and third Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. The Planning Commission is appointed by the City Council and is responsible for the coordination of planning, orderly growth, efficient land use and environmental protection within the City. The Commission considers all discretionary entitlements and makes recommendations to the City Council on amendments to the City’s General Plan and quazi-judicial land use actions such as zone changes and amendments to the zoning code. The Commission is responsible for the implementation of the general plan through actions including the application of zoning, specific plans and subdivision ordinances as well as the coordination of other local plans and programs with the plans and programs of other public agencies.
Public Safety Committee
The Public Safety Committee consists of five members who meet every three months at 6:00 p.m. As part of the strategic plan, the Public Safety Committee aligns the City with its core goal of “Providing a Safe Community”. The purpose of this committee is to foster and maintain effective interaction with law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical services and emergency preparedness.Minimum Qualifications:

- Be 18 years old prior to appointment;
- Not currently be employed by the City of Stanton;
