POSITION SUMMARY:
Work involves performing a wide variety of grounds and Airport facilities maintenance and assist with special projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Mows, trims and edges turf areas using riding mower, push mower, weed whip and edger. Mulches, remove weeds, and trims and edges around flower beds, walks, pathways and walls.
• Collects and disposes of litter, leaves, grass cuttings, deadwood, or fallen trees.
• Operates blowers, truck mounted sweepers, and walk behind vacuums.
• Sprays and applies herbicide, pesticide and fertilizer as needed.
• Collects trash and items to be recycled.
• Inspects equipment and performs preventive maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Performs routine building maintenance and janitorial duties for City buildings.
• Maintains and clean city shop and vehicles.
• Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge of:
• Turf and grounds maintenance procedures; knowledge of basic power and recreational equipment repair; knowledge of equipment operation and safety measures.
Ability to:
• Operate riding and push mower, power edger, weed whip, blower, sprayer, tractor, and basic hand and power tools.
• Perform simple maintenance tasks on equipment.
• Use hand and mechanical tools and equipment .
• Work in safe and efficient manner
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES:
Successful candidate is desired to have a high school diploma, or equivalent, and prior work experience in landscaping and/or grounds maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills, and abilities.
License: Must possess a valid driver’s license
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Environment: Work is primarily performed outside in and around heavy traffic in sometimes adverse weather conditions. Work exposes the employee to hazards associated with traffic, chemicals, fumes, bees, dust, vibrations from machinery or blasting, and loud noise levels. Protective equipment is required such as gloves, orange vests protective eye-wear, work shoes or boots and coveralls. The employee must occasionally travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation, and verbally communicate to exchange information.
Physical: Work requires the physical ability to perform heavy and sustained lifting and carrying of equipment, materials, and supplies; physical exertion requiring crawling, pushing and pulling; and standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Work also involves walking on uneven terrain; squatting, bending and stooping; and climbing on and off of machinery and lifting of objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
