What are the responsibilities and job description for the CCTV Technician - Utilities-Water Division position at CITY OF STARKVILLE?
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
Work involves operation of mechanical equipment used to clean sewer lines, operation of a closed circuit television system used to inspect sewer lines and to detect breaks, cracks, and leaking joints, and operation of specialized grouting equipment to seal breaks, cracks and leak in sewer lines.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Cleans sewer lines with high velocity water pressure cleaning equipment.
· Conducts inspections of sewer lines for breaks, cracks, leaking joints, cleanliness, proper grade and service connection locations; sets up closed circuit TV lines, operates power driven reels, electronic control panels, television cameras, monitors, video tape recorders and related electronic equipment; evaluates the condition of sewer lines and records the location of breaks, cracks and leaking joints on maps.
· Assists equipment operator in the operation of a rodding machine in the maintenance of sewers
· Assists in operation of the jet machine in cleaning sewers.
· Operates pumping equipment; repairs broken rods; cleans debris from manholes; seals manhole covers.
· Drives truck as back-up to regular truck driver.
· Operates a vacuum machine to clean storm drains.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE of, SKILLS AND ABILITIES to:
· Methods and techniques of sewer maintenance and repair, including use of jet and rodding machines.
· Practices and procedures followed in maintenance of City sewer systems.
· Perform semi-skilled general maintenance and construction tasks; perform heavy physical labor.
· Skill in customer service and communicating with customers.
· Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
· Ability to read maps to find service addresses.
· Ability to work well within a team environment and independently.
· Ability to serve as first responder to all emergency calls including weekly scheduled on-call after-hours emergencies.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· High School Diploma or G.E.D or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· A valid Commercial Driver's License Class B is desired. Tanker endorsement is desired or ability to receive one within six months.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Possession of Commercial Driver's License Class B or A.
· Two (2) years of considerable experience in Operations and Maintenance of Collection Systems.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
· Must possess and maintain a valid Mississippi Driver’s License and acceptable MVR.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
· Direct deposit and social security card are required.
· A one-year probationary period may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Environment: Work is primarily performed outside in and around heavy traffic in sometimes adverse weather conditions. Work exposes the employee to hazards associated with traffic, chemicals, fumes, bees, dust, vibrations from machinery or blasting, and loud noise levels. Protective equipment is required such as gloves, orange vests protective eyewear, work shoes or boots and coveralls. The employee must occasionally travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation, and verbally communicate to exchange information.
Physical: Work requires the physical ability to perform heavy and sustained lifting and carrying of equipment, materials, and supplies; physical exertion requiring crawling, pushing and pulling; and standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Work also involves walking on uneven terrain; squatting, bending and stooping; and climbing on and off of machinery and lifting of objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
