Description
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator operates and inspects equipment at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Examples of Duties
- Monitors treatment process and makes necessary adjustments as indicated by current conditions;
- Monitors performance of machinery and equipment used to control the treatment process;
- Inspects plant equipment;
- Prepares inspection sheets, logs, and flow charts;
- Maintains records;
- Monitors performance of machinery and equipment used to control the treatment process;
- Tends to pumps, blowers, feed pumps, centrifuges, dry and wet chemical feeders, aerators, telescopic settings, wet well, and other equipment used to decontaminate wastewater;
- Cleans and scrubs filters and tanks;
- Changes chlorine cylinders;
- Performs wastewater treatment plant tours;
- Collects wastewater samples for standard tests, such as biochemical oxygen demand, dissolved oxygen, suspended solids, and pH;
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment;
- Maintains sludge drying beds;
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED;
- Six (6) months of experience in a related field;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License;
- Must obtain a Class III Wastewater license within 12 months of hire.
