Responsible for performing welding tasks on various metals using multiple techniques while ensuring safety, quality, and organization in the workspace.NOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville. Service to the citizens during a disaster may result in the assignment of other duties, which will take precedence over duties described in this job description. This position involves heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity related to this position may require the use of fingers and hands, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for the operation of machines, motor vehicles, or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

- Perform welding on various metals utilizing different techniques such as MIG and arc welding.
- Inspect and test welded surfaces to ensure structural integrity and adherence to quality standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to understand project specifications and requirements.
- Set up welding equipment and conduct routine maintenance to ensure optimal operation.
- Adhere strictly to safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.Â
- Maintain an organized and clean workspace to promote efficiency and safety.
- Utilize basic hand tools (e.g., tape measure, grinder, porta ban, drill press) effectively and safely.
- Demonstrate strong fabrication skills to contribute to the production of metal components.
- Possess basic mechanical skills to remove and replace components requiring repair.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED.Â
- Two (2) years of experience in welding.
- Valid North Carolina driver's license or
- Valid driver's license with ability to obtain a North Carolina driver's license within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.
- Proficient knowledge of various welding processes (MIG, TIG, Arc, etc.) and related equipment.
- Through knowledge of different types of metals and their properties, including how they react to heat and welding techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Through knowledge with safety regulations and practices in welding and metal fabrication.
- Working knowledge on using a oxyacetylene torch and plasma cutter.
- Working knowledge of metal and parts fabrication.
- Ability to be self-motivated.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- Ability to establish and maintain records of work activities and parts.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and supervisors.
