A place of community, this riverside botanical garden is a very rewarding place to work where visitors will stop and thank you for the work you do. All of this combined with our flexible schedule makes it one of the best places to work in Steamboat.GENERAL PURPOSEThe Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the health, beauty, and functionality of the public garden’s landscapes and facilities contributing to the overall visitor experience.The position is seasonal, full-time up to 40 hours per week, from approximately May through October. While consistency is important, the schedule can be flexible to adapt to employee’s needs. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Facilities Team Lead. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Occasionally supervises volunteers.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Serves as an ambassador of the City of Steamboat Springs and upholds City values of Service, Teamwork, Integrity, Well-being, Respect and Compassion, while always espousing safety.Turfgrass management including mowing “The Green” and berms. With support from the Facilities Team Lead, applies herbicide when needed in trails, turfgrass, and patios.Maintains the Trillium House patio and adjacent landscape. Ensures the patio and outdoor tables are clean.Maintains the water right/irrigation ditch from Fish Creek and the head gate. Ensures debris and plant material is removed. Monitors the flow, dams, and culverts.Maintains Peter’s Pond by controlling algae and suckers.Maintains and cleans the sculptures in the Park.Maintains roads and trails by keeping them weed-free and ensuring visitor safety.Performs janitorial and custodial work as required including trash removal, slash removal, cleaning the building and restrooms.Assists the Facility Lead to build and maintain the infrastructure that supports the gardens and meets the needs of visitors including hardscape, trails, stairs, walkways, gates, and signage.Assists with the irrigation system including programming and repairs. Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.Supports the horticulture staff as needed.Assists with Botanic Park special events as needed.Interacts with visitors and answers visitor’s questions about the Botanic Park.
