What are the responsibilities and job description for the Urban Forestry Landscaper position at City of Stevens Point?
The Urban Forestry Landscaper is a spring/summer seasonal position. Hours per week can be flexible and will range from 8 to 40 hours per week. This employee performs a wide variety of tasks in support of a comprehensive urban forestry program. The employee works as a crew member or may be assigned to work alone as required for best efficiency of operations. This position is supervised by the City Superintendent of Forestry & Landscape Operations, or on site by the City Arborist.
- Maintenance of landscape plants including watering, weeding, mulching, pruning, and fertilization.
- Planting and removal of all types of landscape plants including trees, shrubs, annual and perennial flowers, ornamental grasses and ground covers.
- Bed preparation including sod removal, tilling, soil removal/replacement, and edging.
- Mowing and trimming of small turf areas.
- Stump removal.
- Assist in diagnosis of plant pest problems.
- Assist in detection and sampling of possible Dutch Elm disease and Oak wilt infection.
- Assist in pest control procedures including non-chemical means and pesticide application.
- Use pruning shears, pruning saws, loppers, shovels, rakes and other specialty tools as well as basic hand tools as appropriate for the task.
- Operate chainsaws, brush cutters, lawn mowers, string trimmers, rototillers, stump grinders, and other powered grounds equipment.
- Operate pickup trucks and other similar vehicles including small tractors.
- Clean and perform operator level maintenance on all tools, equipment and vehicles used on the job.
- Other tasks as may be assigned.
- Valid Wisconsin driver's license or other state license acceptable to Wisconsin.
- Ability to intermittently sit, stand, walk, bend and lift 50 pound loads.
- Ability to work indoors or outdoors in all types of weather.
- Ability to communicate effectively and interact positively with fellow employees and the general public.
- Interest in arboriculture, landscape maintenance, or related field evidenced by formal training and previous work experience.
- Ability to haul and back trailers.
- Capable of driving and operating water tanker truck used for watering trees and flowers.
Salary : $16 - $17
