What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Camp Counselor /Parks Department position at City of Streetsboro?
The Streetsboro Parks and Recreation department will be hiring a Summer Camp Counselor. This position will be responsible for the daily operation of an 12-week long summer camp at the Streetsboro City Park. He or She will assist the Head Camp Counselor to organize and implement daily activities such as arts & crafts, outdoor education, sports, group games, projects, field trips and other recreational activities. The Head Summer Camp Counselor will lead and direct campers, manage junior counselors, and supervise volunteers each day. Duties are performed under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Director and Recreation Programmer.
Responsibilities:
- Guides and manages campers in a wide variety of recreational activities
- Ensure camp participants are properly supervised and following safety and security protocols at all times.
- Ensure there are proper supplies and equipment for all camp activities
- Develop and implement program activities that align with the camp mission and desired outcomes.
- Set a good example in regards to general camp procedures and practices.
- Represent the camp when interacting with parents and/or community members.
- Provide parents with the necessary feedback and information for their campers to have a successful camp experience.
- Appropriately address all questions and concerns with Recreation Programmer
- Responsible for the care of participants which requires a high degree of accountability.
- Work requires being outside majority of the time, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting.

- Ability to communicate messages with children
- Knowledge of general camp operations and recreation programs
- Capable of taking instructions and implementing the plan for the day
- Ability to improvise when schedule or plans are inaccurate
- Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification
- Ability to enforce rules and safety regulations
- Ability to observe participant behavior, assess its appropriateness and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques;
- Assist the Recreation Programmer in evaluating the camp program
- Respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Previous experience with camp or other recreational facility is preferred
- Must be available everyday for entirety of the camps
- Experience with instructing youth including arts & crafts, sports, group games, projects, supervising field trips or other recreational activities
- Must possess a strong passion for recreation and kids.
