Position Summary
- C urrent possession of the State of Florida Firesafety Inspector I Certification is required
Under the direction of and subordinate to the Operations Chief, the Fire Marshal and Fire Chief, position is responsible for ensuring fire code compliance for public safety through inspection of new and existing businesses pertaining to the Florida Fire Prevention Code and local ordinances. The Fire Inspector shall collaborate with the Building Department as needed and is responsible for ensuring fire code application for all new construction and Business Tax Receipts. Conducts annual fire safety inspections of existing buildings and conducts plan review. Work is performed in accordance with direct instructions and well-defined routines. Work is reviewed through written and electronic reports for adherence to established policies and procedures.
Examples of Essential Functions
Inspects buildings and various occupancies for fire hazards.
Responsible for field enforcement of all local and state fire prevention laws and ordinances.
Based on state regulations, defines and explains fire codes to professional people such as contractors, architects and engineers.
Conducts site inspections.
Submits inspection reports on the proper forms to the Fire Chief in a timely manner.
Enters and maintains inspection data via an electronic reporting system.
Performs plan review of new construction.
Performs inspections of new construction / additions.
Conducts new construction project site familiarization with firefighters.
Participates in pre-construction meetings.
Conducts fire-safety inspections of new and existing buildings which includes plans review for all occupancies reflected within the Florida Fire Prevention Code.
Conducts annual life-safety fire inspections and Business Tax Receipts life-safety inspections.
Conducts fire inspections of food trucks for compliance with the Florida Fire Prevention Code.
Creates and maintains accurate records and reports of inspections.
Represents the city on the enforcement of the Florida Fire Prevention Code, including notices of violations and code enforcement case presentation as required.
Interprets fire codes in response to inquiries from architects, engineers, contractors, and the general public.
Review and utilize approved fire code compliance reporting software by contractors uploading reports.
Promotes a positive customer service environment and attitude both inside and outside of the department.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. At minimum must possess and maintain a current State of Florida Firesafety Inspector I certification. A minimum of one (1) year of fieldwork in code inspection experience preferred. Ability to obtain necessary continuing education to maintain Fire Safety Inspector Certification.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License.
