Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and innovative City Planner to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our community by developing comprehensive plans and programs for land use, economic development, and transportation. This position requires a strong understanding of urban planning principles, excellent project management skills, and the ability to analyze data to inform decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for directing and administering the current and long range planning and development activities for the City of Sturgis as well as for the administration of the city’s zoning ordinance, subdivision regulations, and comprehensive plan.
- Conduct thorough research and analysis of land use, zoning regulations, and demographic trends.
- Serve as the “one stop shop” for developers, businesses, and residents as they bring forward development and improvement projects..
- Responsible for coordinating the City’s comprehensive master planning, neighborhood planning, and residential and non-residential growth analysis and projections as well as land use plan amendments..
- Prepare reports, presentations, and proposals for city officials and community meetings.
- Researches and recommends zoning changes, variances, use-on-reviews, special exceptions, platting and subdivisions
- Primary point of contact for the MS4 program.
- Engage in economic development initiatives to promote sustainable growth in the community.
Experience
- A degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Public Administration or a related field is preferred.
- Work experience in lieu of education may be considered- Ideal Candidate will have 3-5 years’ experience in City planning
- Strong project management skills with experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent data analysis skills to interpret complex information and make informed recommendations.
- Knowledge of economic development principles and transportation planning practices is a plus.
- Experience with GIS systems and ability to navigate layers and parcel info (preferred).
