Under general supervision, performs supervisory, administrative, and technical work supervising custodial activities for departments involved in daily and special events, as well as managing the work of contractors. Work involves managing assigned budgets, oversight of building custodial services administration and related work order tasks. Work also involves monitoring and attending to the appearance and condition of City buildings. Reports to the Assistant Director of Capital Programs and Buildings. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Supervises custodial staff; instructs, assigns and reviews work of subordinates; maintains departmental standards through the effective coordination of activities; trains new personnel; provides guidance and direction to subordinates; ensures adherence to established policies and procedures; resolves problem situations; conducts performance appraisal.Prepares work order job assignments for custodial staff, performs research and prepares reports for custodial staff; research information to improve job performance and goals.Coordinates and supervises departments involved in preparing for functions or events involving the City Manager's Office and City Council.Coordinates work activities with day and night shift supervisors to ensure all work orders are complete within established schedule.Manages assigned budget; monitors expenditures ensuring compliance with budgetary guidelines.Manages the custodial supply, material, and equipment inventory; ensures supply levels are maintained to complete daily work activities; purchases or leases custodial equipment; ensures supplies are purchased at competitive pricing.Oversees and supervises the activities of contracted custodial services, ensuring contractual compliance.Monitors the condition and appearance of City Buildings; assigns tasks to improve and maintains the same.Prepares and drafts bid specifications; participates in the bidding process; assists in selecting contractors.Performs routine administrative tasks in support of the daily operations of the department; performs computer data entry; documents daily reports; answers incoming calls; provides information to callers; utilizes computer software programs including word processing, database, and other programs.Moves furniture and other items as necessary; picks-up and delivers items and packages to various locations throughout the City.Attends development classes.Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the City and or departmental practices as they pertain to the performance of duties relating to the position of General Services Supervisor.Knowledge of the principles of supervising a work group and is able to provide effective supervision to assigned personnel and supervisory staff.Knowledge of all custodial trades and is able to determine the need for custodial maintenance within assigned buildings.Knowledge of the abilities of assigned employees and is able to determine if custodial tasks can be completed internally or if outside contractors are required.Knowledge of the bid process and is able to professionally participate in preparing bid specifications and selecting contractors.Knowledge of the terminology, principles and methods utilized within the department.Knowledge of how to keep abreast of any changes in policy, methods, administrative changes, or related operations updates as they pertain to departmental operations and activities.Ability to implement policy changes within the department and ensure adherence to all establishes guidelines, procedures and policies.Ability to effectively communicate and interact with subordinates, supervisors and members of the general public, and all other groups involved in the activities of the department.Ability to assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear, and effective manner.Ability to use independent judgment and work with little direct supervision as situations warrant.Ability to perform required calculations.Ability to use computers and software programs typically utilized in the position.Ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data.
